Duties of Officers and Directors


The President is the principal executive officer of the Association and presides over all meetings of the Board of Directors and general meetings of the Association. The President directs the duties of the other officers and chairs the executive committee and serves as ex-officio member of all standing committees of the Association. The President is responsible for communicating the NAA mission, strategic goals, and committee objectives to members of the NAA board and other alumni volunteers, NAA staff, administration, faculty, and students as well as inspiring and motivating alumni to find innovative ways to help the NAA succeed.

The President-Elect performs duties assigned by the President. The President-Elect is responsible for developing the strategic plan for his/her upcoming term.

The Immediate Past President performs duties assigned by the President of the Board of Directors.

The Vice President for Regional Directors has oversight for the Regional Directors on the NAA Board and is responsible for the activities of the Regional Directors in order to provide support and coordination to club presidents and constituent group leaders within a designated region.

The Vice President for External Operations has oversight responsibility for those NAA Board Committees with primarily external or outreach focus. These committees include Alumni Career, Clubs, Reunions, Students, and Young Alumni.

The Vice President for Internal Operations has oversight responsibility for those NAA Board Committees with primarily internal focus. These Committees include Alumni Education, Membership, Alumni Communications, and Programs.

The Secretary is responsible for recording all minutes of the Board of Directors, the executive committee, the Officers, and causes minutes to be recorded of all committees of the board. The President of the Association may assign additional duties

The Treasurer is responsible for reporting on the status of all funds of the Association to the Board of Directors, and to the annual meeting of the Association. The Treasurer will develop a budget for the upcoming fiscal year including requests for future funding requirements. The President of the Association may assign additional duties.

The Directors-at-Large serve as a chair or vice chair of a standing committee as appointed by the President. They implement assignments to achieve committee objectives that support NAA strategic goals. Responsibilities include but are not limited to recruiting new members for the committee, organizing, coordinating and hosting phone conferences at least 3-4 times per year, and working with the committee’s liaison from the NAA Staff. They make recommendations to the NAA Board on how to support strategic plan goals.

Regional Directors serve as the primary liaison between the region they serve and the NAA Board. Their constituents include but are not limited to club leaders, young alumni, Northwestern University Enterntainment Alliance, Kellogg clubs, Medill clubs, alumni regents, and the alumni admissions council director in their region. They make recommendations to the NAA Board on how to support the local clubs and organizations in their efforts to increase participation within the region.
