NU Club of Greater New York: Chinese New Year Dinner Celebration

Come Celebrate Chinese New Year with a Singaporean-style Dinner with NU author Cheryl Tan

Curious about Southeast Asian food? Join with other Northwestern alums and Cheryl Lu-Lien Tan (Medill '97), author of "A Tiger in the Kitchen: A Memoir of Food and Family," on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Cafe Asean in the West Village. We will dine on unusual appetizers and entrees such as tofu bakar and Indonesian style grilled chicken as well as dessert, all served family style.

Ms. Tan, a former writer for the Wall Street Journal and In Style magazine, will talk about her debut book, which chronicles how a thirty-something longing to reconnect with herself and the flavors of her youth, learns to infuse her New York lifestyle with the rich lessons of her Singaporean heritage. She will talk about the path that led her from Northwestern University to a book-writing career.

The cost of the evening will include the dinner plus a copy of the book which you can have signed by the author. Reservations are necessary so please sign up early.
