Dear Members:
The “season” in Naples is winding down and our NU Alumni Club enjoyed a very fine year. We would like to thank Patti Stratton for her terrific leadership the past two years as President. Clark Jensen will continue as Treasurer and Nancy Johnstone as Secretary while I now begin my term as President. Chrissie Jackson and Michelle Klinowski accepted the new positions of Vice President of Membership and Vice President of Programs respectively.
Your continued participation enabled our club to provide $12,000 in financial support for our University. The general scholarship fund received $7,500; and the Schools of Law and Medicine received $1,500 each as did the Athletic Department.
Our fall season began with a dinner at The Estuary featuring Stephen Drizen, Professor of Law and Director of the Wrongful Convictions Program. Steven Rosen, MD, Head of Oncology at Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine spoke to nearly 100 members and guests at a luncheon at the Port Royal club in January. The Northern Trust hosted and underwrote a lovely cocktail party in February, honoring our generous N.U. supporter Lavern “Lal” Norris Gaynor -- the event’s scholarship contributions donated in Lal’s name. The finale of the season with Head Football Coach Patrick Fitzgerald brought out 85 enthusiastic fans for a tailgate-style dinner at Wyndemere Club. Pat had just been inducted into The College Football Hall of Fame. We are proud!
We are planning the programs and venues for next season, kicking off on November 14 with a luncheon at Bamboo Café in Olde Naples featuring a presentation by owner and NU alumna Lisa Kelly-Boet, followed by an optional wine tasting. We are working with the University on a Medical or Music School program in the winter, and again ending with a tailgate party in March with Athletic Director Jim Phillips and Coach Fitzgerald. We will update the web page with more details, dates and speakers as finalized over the summer.
