NEXT (Northwestern Externship Program) -- NEXT Steps in Building Student and Alumni Relationships
The 6th Annual NEXT program involved 186 Alumni hosts and 225 student participants located internationally --from the greater Chicagoland area to Paris, London, Brazil, and Jordan. NEXT, (the Northwestern Externship Program), a one-day job shadowing program that provides students opportunities to accompany alumni at their place of work.
Participants were matched in a range of professional industries -- healthcare being the most popular, followed by marketing/communications and law. Industries such as engineering, consulting, and education also captured student interest.
The externship program creates an opportunity for students to experience a ‘typical day’ in their desired career. While on-site, students may sit in on staff meetings, assist with office projects, and even conduct informational interviews with employees in a range of levels and specializations within the company. The program is one of the many opportunities offered by the NAA to connect current students and alumni.
NEXT plays a well established role in the undergraduate experience at Northwestern, while offering alumni a way to interact with students and become a part of the University's community.
The NAA will offer the program in 2010 NEXT due to its continuing success.
