June 9, 2009.  Nearly 200 alumni, parents, and friends of Northwestern attended a very special A Night With Northwestern in San Francisco which included a pre-reception and program followed by opening night of the Gershwins’ "Porgy and Bess" at San Francisco Opera. The event was presented by the NAA in partnership with the Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music.

A pre-performance reception in the elegant Green Room at the San Francisco War Memorial Veterans Building kicked off the evening. Guests mingled, enjoyed hors d’ouevres and cocktails, and learned more about new University initiatives. Toni-Marie Montgomery, dean of the Bienen School of Music, discussed the state of the School and highlighted recent School events. The audience also heard from alumnus Karl O. Mills (KSM84), a member of the San Francisco Opera’s board of directors, as well as San Francisco Opera general director David Gockley, before heading to the opera house to witness what many consider a masterpiece of American musical theatre.
