Students and NU LinkedIn Community Collaborate for Class Assignment

November 17 - 20, 2009. Students in Professor Bill White’s Organizational Communication course and the NU LinkedIn community discussed alumni perspectives on hot-button career issues ranging from texting in the business and personal realms to Ken Lewis’ performance as CEO of Bank of America. With close to 160 alumni responses, students achieved their objective to engage 2-3 alumni in their discussion topics, illustrating continued alumni network support to current students.

McCormick graduate student Nicole Scholtz’s post was called “Texting as Distraction or Benefit?” Scholtz garnered 18 responses from alumni. Responses ranged from highlighting the efficiency of texting in meetings for relevant information quickly to the danger of texting while driving.

“LinkedIn is a great way to connect with alumni!” Scholtz noted, “If I can figure out how to use it better, I’d like to use it to help me network.”

After the completion of the assignment Scholtz and her classmates not only received insightful commentary for their papers, but also began building Wildcat connections.

The sampling of student papers below addresses the topics shared and alumni responses:
