2010 Alumni Awards: A Tradition of Honoring Excellence

For the 78th consecutive year, the Northwestern Alumni Association cast a spotlight on some of the University’s most accomplished and dedicated graduates. Nineteen alumni, representing fields ranging from media to business to medical research, were honored at the Northwestern Alumni Association Alumni Awards on October 8 at the Union League Club of Chicago.
William White (McC61), a life trustee and popular professor at the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science with an impressive background as a business executive, received the highest distinction the NAA grants its alumni—the Alumni Medal.
Also recognized were:
- Service to Society honoree Raymond Melrose (D62)
- Emerging Leader Andrew Mason (BSM03)
- Merit winners David Barstow (J86), Patricia Solis Doyle (SCS90), Peter Frechette (KSM80), Catherine Huff Gottfred (GC73, 79), David Holtzman (WCAS83, FSM85), John Musker (WCAS75), Kelly O’Donnell (SESP87), Virginia Rometty (McC79), David Savner (WCAS65, L68), Charles Sfeir (D96, G99), and Chin-Teh Sun (McC65, 67) and
- Alumni Service recipients Gerald (SESP59) and Joanne Jablonski (WCAS61), David Kragseth (C81, GC86), William Steinmetz (KSM74), and Patricia Conway Thorpe (C63).
Newscaster Joyce Garbaciak Bobber (J84, GJ85) served as master of ceremonies while the Gentlemen of NUCO, a group of student musicians that appeared on the TV show America’s Got Talent, provided the entertainment.
