Northwestern in LA: Career Choices and Transitions Recap
On February 5, over 100 Northwestern alumni and friends gathered in the beautiful and blizzard-free Los Angeles area to attend Northwestern in LA: Career Choices and Transitions. The event, held in the Pacific Design Center, was an afternoon full of networking and advice from industry and career experts as part of the NAA’s ongoing programming focusing on career services, transitions, and life skills. The event kicked off with a keynote presentation given by Mark Goldston (KSM78), the CEO of United Online Inc. Afterward, attendees chose between two breakout sessions: Career Transitions with author, speaker, life coach and contributor to the Huffington Post Christine Hassler (C98) and LA Entrepreneurs: Bumps, Bruises & Becoming a Success, a panel discussion led by Matthew Temple (KSM93), the Director of Alumni Career Services at the Kellogg School of Management. Hassler focused on how to move smoothly and successfully from one career to another, while Temple was the moderator for a panel of LA based NU alums who spoke about how to create and sustain a business. After the breakout sessions, attendees made connections at a networking reception where they had the opportunity to meet alumni who are outstanding in their respective fields, ranging from financial services to marketing, public relations, and advertising.
