Dean Thomas F. Gibbons, School of Continuing Studies (SCS)

Dear Alumni:
Growth continues to be the hallmark of the School of Continuing Studies (SCS). Today, we offer a broad array of academic programs and customized learning at the undergraduate, graduate and professional development levels. SCS is proud of its role as an entrepreneurial enterprise seeking out and developing innovative learning initiatives, collaborative partnerships and new delivery methods to meet the needs of working students.
Recently, we applied for and received two grants from the Bernard Osher Foundation: one to continue funding for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and another grant to fund the Re-Entry Scholars Program, a program which provides a scholarship of up to $5,000 for a student returning to school to complete their education.
SCS will also launch its second online master’s degree, the Master of Arts in Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) in the fall of 2009. This program will provide students the opportunity to experience distance learning from Northwestern’s prestigious faculty while maintaining their professional careers. The MPPA online degree program is designed for current and aspiring leaders who seek to positively impact society through the development, analysis, or implementation of public policy. The program is taught by current leaders in the field to students who are motivated to apply systematic thinking and pragmatic solutions to contribute to positive and relevant societal outcomes. In addition, our new Associate Director of Alumni Relations and Development is currently helping SCS alumni connect by planning and implementing a variety of alumni events.
I encourage you to join our alumni community to find out more about our programs and how you may make ongoing connections within and outside of Northwestern and the School. Whether you do this through volunteer work, serving on the board of the alumni club, participating in events, mentoring students, or even through continuing your own education, we look forward to working with you.
Thank you for your continuing support and for assisting us in the effort to keep redefining what adult education can and should be at one of the nation’s premier institutions of higher learning.
Sincerely,
Thomas F. Gibbons
Dean, School of Continuing Studies
