Reunion 2008
Reunion Weekend, October 17-19, 2008. Reunion brought more than 4,000 Northwestern alumni back to campus for three days of networking and education events, class parties, reunions with affinity groups, and the Homecoming football game. It was a classic fall weekend in Evanston and Chicago, and while the leaves were changing colors, the most prevalent color around town seemed to be purple.
The Half Century Club, those who’ve passed the 50-year reunion hallmark, were invited for their annual lunch, for the first time joining the larger reunion celebration in the fall.
This group of classes -- 1958, 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, and 2003 -- had record-breaking success with fundraising. These ten classes raised more than $22 million, which gave them more to celebrate on Sunday than the terrific victory over Purdue.
Our reunion team asked alumni for feedback during the weekend and one alum summed up the feelings of many who returned to campus: "I am glad I made it. Made me feel like part of Northwestern again." Another wrote: "I promised myself that when I turned 60, I would not make a fool of myself by dirty dancing -- I lied!!!!!"
