Begin in cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, Argentina, and see the Teatro Colón, the Casa Rosada and the city’s European-influenced barrios. Then, transfer to Ushuaia to embark on a magnificent three-night cruise showcasing the glorious scenery of Patagonia. Cruise around Cape Horn, walk through a Magellanic forest at Wulaia Bay, enjoy a breathtaking glacier cruise and explore Magdalena Island. After disembarking the ship, travel to Puerto Varas, Chile, your gateway to the beautiful Lake District. Visit the lovely town of Santa Cruz before concluding in Santiago, Chile’s fascinating capital. Don’t miss this unique travel experience—a perfect blend of picturesque land and cityscapes, authentic South American cuisine and luxurious accommodations.
Day 1
Depart your gateway city for Buenos Aires, Argentina, aboard scheduled jet service. (Provided for Air Program
participants only.)
Day 2
Upon arrival, transfer to the Caesar Park Hotel. (Transfer provided for Air Program participants only.)
This evening, gather with fellow travelers for a Welcome Reception.
Day 3
Excursion: Highlights of Buenos Aires.
See the Colon Theater and Avenida de Mayo. Visit the Plaza del Mayo, Metropolitan Cathedral, La Boca, the Palermo district and Recoleta.
Day 4
Today is at leisure.
Optional Excursion: Colonia del Sacramento.
Discover Colonia del Sacramento in neighboring Uruguay. The city’s historic quarter is a UNESCO World Heritage List site.
Optional Excursion: Tango.
Tonight, enjoy a performance of tango dancing.
Day 5
Transfer to Ushuaia. Upon arrival, embark the MV Australis.
Tonight, attend a Welcome Reception.
Day 6
Excursion: Cape Horn and Wulaia Bay.
See Cape Horn, a 1,391-foot cliff where the Atlantic and Pacific oceans merge. Continue to Wulaia Bay to stroll through a Magellanic forest.
Day 7
Excursion: Glacier Cruise.
Admire majestic Gunther Plüschow Glacier, then board smaller boats for a close
look at the Piloto and Nena glaciers.
Day 8
Excursion: Magdalena Island.
Stop at Magdalena Island, where you may see Magellanic penguins. Enjoy a scenic walk to a lighthouse that guides ships through the Strait of Magellan.
Disembark at Punta Arenas, and transfer to the flight for Puerto Montt. Continue to Puerto Varas and the
Hotel Melia Patagonia.
Day 9
Excursion: Chile’s Lake District.
Marvel at the Lake District’s scenery during a cruise of its sapphire lakes. Visit the towns of Petrohue and Peulla.
Day 10
Excursion: Chiloe Island.
Start the day by discovering the German-influenced architecture of Puerto Varas.
Continue to Chiloe Island, where the 19th-century churches are UNESCO World Heritage List sites because of
their unique architecture.
Day 11
Transfer to the flight to Santiago. Upon arrival, travel to Santa Cruz and the Hotel Plaza Santa Cruz.
Day 12
Excursion: Chile’s Wineries. Tour some of the region’s renowned wineries. Enjoy lunch and a tasting.
Excursion: Spirit House.
Visit a “spirit house,” where local liqueurs are created from local fruit, nuts and herbs, and taste the results.
Day 13
The morning is at leisure in Santa Cruz.
Optional Excursion: Colchagua Museum.
Trace the history of the Americas and view exhibits ranging from pre-Columbian art to the independence of Chile.
This afternoon, journey to Santiago and the Radisson Plaza Hotel.
Tonight, join your fellow travelers for a Farewell Reception.
Day 14
Excursion: Highlights of Santiago.
Admire the historic, scenic and cultural treasures of Santiago, including the Plaza de Armas and the Metropolitan
Park, the largest in the city.
Tonight, transfer to the airport for the return flights to your gateway city. (Provided for Air Program participants only.)
Day 15
Arrive in your gateway city.

Amanda Sloan is the director of Clubs for Northwestern Alumni Association. Prior to her Northwestern arrival in September of 2006, she was employed by Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia for seven years. Amanda earned a master’s degree of public administration in nonprofit management from Georgia State University in 2005 and a BA in speech and hearing pathologies from the University of Iowa in 1999.
