Dear West Michigan Northwestern Alumni and Friends:

When Wildcat fans cheer on their Big Ten team this fall, just remember NU grads CAN do the math. While we give a Willie welcome to the Cornhuskers, our 12th Big Ten team, most of us remember when Ten meant Ten. But the more, the merrier, and that brings us to our 2011 campaign for West Michigan alumni and fans.  Joining the NU Club of West Michigan is a great way to reconnect with classmates and forge new friendships; it’s also a fine way to network.  You’ll find some exciting NU-West Michigan traditions in our 2011 schedule, and you don’t have to have an NU degree to join the fun – we embrace students’ parents and all friends of the university; we all have this in common: Go Northwestern!

What’s on tap in 2011-2012:

  • September 29:  Fall kick-off event is our second annual celebration of Art Prize in Grand Rapids.  Join us for tapas and view the art at San Chez Bistro, downtown Grand Rapids, from 5:30 – 7 pm.  Art historian Caroline Older, who heads the Grand Rapids Arts Council, will briefly share her insights about Art Prize entries, the Arts Council's involvement, and the artists on display at San Chez.  Munch on some tasty tapas, then take an hour to peruse nearby Art Prize venues.
  • October and November:  Football! For the second year running, our NU Wildcats are taking on Michigan teams at home. So, join us at Ryan Field East, aka Bill and Sue Jones’ great Watch-at-Home parties, for a couple of games this fall. Games TBD, color scheme set: purple and white!
  • December 3:  Annual Holiday Party at the home of Rich and Linda Glaser.  Food, drink, and good cheer, over the river and through the woods to Ada!  4:30 to 7 pm.  Details to follow.
  • March 2011:  Faculty speaker from Evanston.  Still in the works – watch as this event evolves.
We look forward to expanding our programming, to give members more opportunities to interact. Your participation and membership dues enable our unique community to grow, and help us sponsor events to connect alumni, young and old, with each other and our alma mater, Northwestern.  You are invited to join our award-winning chapter.
