2025 Homecoming Royalty

Northwestern’s Homecoming Royalty is a cherished tradition that dates back to the 1930s where students nominate graduating seniors who represent the best of what Northwestern has to offer. The student Homecoming co-chairs select the court from the nominated students. Court members represent a variety of majors, student activities, interests, and experiences. From Sunday, September 28 to noon CST on Friday, October 3, the undergraduate student body is eligible to vote to select two members of this group to be the Homecoming Wildcats. The Homecoming Wildcats for 2025 will be crowned at the Homecoming football game on Saturday, October 4.

Meet the 2025 Homecoming Court!

Dave Arthur (he/him)

Hi, my name is Dave Arthur, and I hail from the great city of Delafield, Wisconsin. I am an MMSS and linguistics major, and I am also minoring in data science and Spanish. I am an incredibly avid supporter of Northwestern athletics and act on that passion as the Director of Operations for Northwestern Wildside. You can often find me at basketball, volleyball, field hockey, and other sports games as the person running the student giveaways. I savor meeting all our student fans and promoting the Wildcat spirit amongst the crowd. I also serve as the Volunteer Coordinator for NU Science Olympiad, for which I recruit volunteers for our annual Science Olympiad invitational, organize their schedules, and support them on the day of the event. I am additionally heavily involved with residential life, having served as a resident assistant since my sophomore year. I have worked to build strong and inclusive communities across both Willard Hall and South Mid-Quads, and I am passionate about making sure everyone has a place to call home and people they can turn to on campus. I greatly enjoy sharing my Wisconsin heritage through organizing a cheese tasting event for my residents each quarter. In my free time, I enjoy reading, perusing my atlas collection, and exploring the outdoors through hiking, biking, and geocaching. Go ’Cats!

Cydney Hope Brown (she/her)

Hi everyone! I’m Cydney Hope Brown, a Communications major from Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection. At my core, I’m someone who loves building community and creating spaces where people feel seen and supported. At Northwestern, I’ve had the honor of serving as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., helping organize meaningful programs for our campus and Evanston communities. I’m also the founder of the Black Poetry Society, where I help bring people together through the art of storytelling, and I’ve mentored FGLI students through the Summer Academic Workshop, supporting students as they transition into college life.

Outside of campus, I volunteer at the Evanston Public Library, leading Language Tables and children's sing-alongs, and I work as a brand ambassador for companies like Max and Stouffer’s, helping students access free resources that make a real difference.

I’ve also been lucky to share my love for storytelling outside Northwestern as a Youth Poet Laureate. I’ve done this through poetry readings and workshops, and working on projects such as my book Daydreaming and my spoken word album “Roundtrip.” Writing poetry has been a part of my life since the fifth grade, and it’s taught me how powerful it can be to share your truth.

I truly love Northwestern and the community I’ve found and helped build here. Fun fact: I’ve lived in East Fairchild for four years.

DeAhnna Brown (she/her)

Hey Northwestern community! My name is DeAhnna Brown and I’m from Detroit, Michigan. I am not from the surrounding metro area, but the actual city! Accordingly, I coined the phrase “Dee from the D!” I am currently in the Weinberg School of Arts and Sciences studying Neuroscience in pursuit of being the first physician in my family! I am also pursuing a minor in Theatre with the School of Communication. I am well known for being a member on the Northwestern University Cheer team and have spent time on the squad for 3 consecutive years! However, you can also catch me with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority collaborating with my sisters to unite and uplift the Black community, helping build a supportive community for underrepresented pre-medical students through the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students, and finally volunteering with Accord Hospice through the Hospice Patient Care Club and working as a Certified Nurse Assistant to further my experience and knowledge of the medical field in hopes of becoming an effective physician!

Sahil Desai (any pronouns)

Hi! My name is Sahil Desai and I'm from Reno, Nevada. I'm a WCAS Biology and Psychology major with a minor in Spanish. You may have seen me handing out condoms in Norris as director of our Sexual Health and Assault Peer Educators (SHAPE) or at LGBTQ+ events as a proud member of NU's Rainbow Alliance. I also play the trumpet in Mariachi NU and our Wildcat Marching Band. My favorite class I ever took at Northwestern is health psychology and my favorite event is Refusionshaka.

Simon Kissel (he/him)

Hi!! My name is Simon Kissel and I was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. I am a student in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and I am studying Math and Biology, with a concentration in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation. On Northwestern's campus, you can find me singing in the Northwestern University Choirs, running on the NU Track Club, doing microbial ecology research in the Hartmann Lab, or welcoming new students as a PA. I am also the president of Prairie Cats (our campus ecological restoration club), a tutor with Books and Breakfast, and a proud member of Northwestern's crossword team! Outside of Northwestern, I like to backpack, enjoy new foods, watch sports, and play board games. Go Cats!!

Elsa Steen Koppell

I call Phoenix, Arizona home. I am pursuing a double major political science and data science in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. Outside of class, you'll find me playing clarinet in the marching band, holding calculus office hours, or frolicking on the lakefill! I also serve on the executive boards of Sigma Alpha Iota, the Songwriters Association at Northwestern, and Northwestern Political Union. And if, by some miracle, I have free time, I love going baseball games, hiking, and doing the daily crossword!

Kyra Lesmerises (she/her)

Hi! I'm from Columbus, Ohio. I'm in School of Communication, majoring in Radio/Television/Film and pursuing a Comedy Arts certificate. I have a passion for writing and want to be a TV writer someday, so I'm always taking as many RTVF writing classes as I can. I'm president of the Northwestern Flipside (satirical writing like The Onion), president of CoPilot (a mock TV writer's room club), and a sketch writer for one of the comedy groups on campus, Overtime. In my free time, I love going to games, specifically basketball. I went to both Sacramento and Brooklyn for their NCAA tournament appearances and had so much fun! I also love going to comedy shows on campus, hanging out with my friends, working on student film sets, going to trivia at Bob's, getting acai bowls at ShakeSmart, and getting boba from all the boba places in Evanston. Last year, I studied abroad in Paris for fall quarter. I have loved meeting so many people at Northwestern, being involved in so many different things, and taking advantage of all that campus has to offer!

John Saleeb (he/him)

My name is John Saleeb, and I'm a Posse Scholar from Southern California! I’m in Weinberg, majoring in Neuroscience with minors in Global Health Studies and Data Science. I currently serve as an RA in the Northeast Area (GO Goodrich!) and am actively involved with the Middle Eastern and Christian communities on campus. I’m incredibly grateful for the supportive and dynamic community that Northwestern continues to cultivate—meeting new people and learning from their experiences has been the most meaningful part of my time here. Whether it’s through cultural events, late-night dorm conversations, or collaborative campus initiatives, I love being part of what makes this University feel like home.

Nik Sung (he/him)

I am originally from Iowa City, Iowa, but the latter half of my life has been characterized by lots of moving. I have lived in South Korea for six years, and more recently, my family has moved to Kansas City, Missouri while they anticipate moving once more to the Twin Cities in Minnesota. However, I proudly consider myself a native Midwesterner at heart, and my experience has offered countless opportunities to explore the beautiful cities and landscapes of the Midwest. At Northwestern, I study Neuroscience, Linguistics, and Business Institutions in the Weinberg College, and I am particularly interested in bilingualism and psycholinguistics research. In my lab, I explore the different language and brain processes experienced by bilinguals and monolinguals. As a Korean-English bilingual myself, I enjoy connecting my research insights to my own psychology and past experiences that shape who I am today. Outside the lab, I am an avid explorer of Chicago and Evanston, and my passion for our community led me to serve as the Director for Weinberg on the 2025 Wildcat Welcome Board of Directors and an academic tutor at a non-profit organization called MetroSquash. Giving back to the community is my continued passion, and I am excited to further this commitment through the 2025 Homecoming Royalty!

Spencer Thomas (he/him)

I’m from Brookfield, Wisconsin, majoring in RTVF and US History, and I’m excited to be on this year’s Homecoming court! I’m commonly found doing something stupid, either on a film set or in one of the many comedy groups at Northwestern. I am a co-director of Mee-Ow, head writer for The Blackout, co-creator of The Sit Down, director of The Shallow End, a member of Out Da Box, a section leader for the Marching Band, and a member of a barbershop quartet. If you haven’t seen me in any of those, then you’ve probably seen me speed walking around campus blasting the Phineas and Ferb soundtrack in my earbuds. In my free time, I enjoy dancing, playing basketball, and thrifting to add to my collection of concert posters and ironic t-shirts!

Ty’Shea Woods (she/her)

First and foremost, I am God’s daughter. I’m also a proud FGLI student from Baltimore, Maryland, studying Psychology and International Studies in Weinberg. I am blessed to be at Northwestern through the Questbridge Match Scholarship. During my time at Northwestern, I’ve dedicated myself to service and community building—values that shape both my academic and extracurricular commitments. I’ve served in ASG, most recently as Co-President, and founded the International Studies Society to help globalize the Northwestern experience for all students. Through various University programs and grants, I’ve been fortunate to see more of the world, which has deepened my commitment to ensuring that students, especially those from backgrounds like mine, recognize what’s possible simply by being at Northwestern. Education and knowledge creation have also been central to my journey. I’ve taught in Japan and India and mentored underclassmen on campus, which has given me a deeper appreciation for the power of education, especially as our generation steps into the responsibility of rebuilding and shaping an evolving global order. Beyond teaching, I’ve contributed to knowledge production through research aimed at amplifying underrepresented voices, which has included presenting on marginalized PhD students’ identity processes in Amsterdam and applying my US foreign policy research as a peacemaking intern in South Africa. Whether through ministry with NCE and Impact, informal mentorship, or efforts to rehumanize campus life, I strive to make Northwestern a place where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered. I recognize the privilege I’ve been given by being a Wildcat. To receive this blessing is to live every single second of my life paying it forward by caring for, uplifting, and investing in my community: my Northwestern family.
