Service and Club Awards
The Northwestern Alumni Association recognized several alumni and clubs for outstanding contributions to the University at the Service and Club Awards reception in September.
Service to Northwestern
Presented to alumni in recognition of loyal service rendered to the University. Service may be provided either through the Alumni Association, an affiliated alumni group, school or unit, or other University-associated program.
Fred L. Brown ’62

Fred L. Brown retired as the founding president and CEO of BJC Healthcare in St. Louis, Missouri—a system of 14 hospitals in Missouri and southern Illinois. He received his BA in psychology from Northwestern. Fred has served the University in numerous volunteer roles. He is the current chair of the Alumni Regents, a member of the Northwestern University Libraries Board of Governors, and an active mentor in the Northwestern Network Mentorship Program. He has also served as co-chair of his 45th, 50th, and 55th Reunions and has been a strong supporter of Northwestern athletics.
Pamela James ’71

Pamela James received her BA in history from Northwestern. She is a longtime member and past president of The Alumnae of Northwestern University, a volunteer group of 60 women which raises funds for the University. In 2016, she was co-chair for The Alumnae’s Centennial, when the group established the Alumnae Centennial Endowment for Undergraduate Research to help students today and in the future. She and her husband, Paul James ’70, enjoy many activities at Northwestern, including academics, music, theater, and men’s and women’s athletics.

Presented to an individual in recognition of leadership and service excellence rendered to an affinity, international, and/or local club.
Lynn Ellen Queen ’81,
NU Club of Virginia

Lynn Ellen Queen is principal of Queen & Associates, an executive coaching and leadership development firm. She received her BA in French from Northwestern and an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University. She also earned certificates in theological studies from Virginia Theological Seminary and in leadership coaching from Georgetown University. Queen has served Northwestern as a board member and president of the NU Club of Virginia. She and her husband, Bill, have three grown children and live in Richmond, Virginia, with their Wheaten Terrier, Huckleberry Finnegan.
