Jeff Ubben ’87 MBA (’20 P)

Impact investor and philanthropist

Jeff Ubben is founder, managing partner, and portfolio manager of Inclusive Capital Partners, a San Francisco-based investment management firm. The firm seeks to positively leverage capitalism and governance in pursuit of a healthy planet and the well-being of its inhabitants, and seeks superior long-term shareholder value through active partnerships with companies whose core businesses either contribute to this pursuit or are transforming their businesses to become more sustainable.

Previously, Ubben was CEO, chief investment officer, and founder of ValueAct Capital, a San Francisco-based investment management firm. Prior to founding ValueAct Capital in 2000, he was a managing partner at Blum Capital partners for five years.

Ubben joined the Northwestern University Board of Trustees as a charter trustee in 2008 and became a life trustee in 2020. He also is a Kellogg Asset Management Practicum Advisory Council member and has served on the Kellogg Alumni Council. Ubben was a member of the steering committees for We Will. The Campaign for Northwestern and Kellogg’s campaign, and he co-chaired the University’s San Francisco Regional Campaign Committee.

Today, Ubben is a director of Enviva Inc., Exxon Mobil Corporation, and Fertiglobe plc. He sits on the boards of Duke University, the World Wildlife Fund, The Redford Center, and the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation. From 2007 to 2016, he served as chair of the National Board of the Posse Foundation, a college access and leadership development program for high school students from diverse backgrounds.

Ubben earned an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. He and his wife, Laurie, are the parents of three children: Charlotte, Theo, and Josephine ’20 MBA. His father, Timothy Ubben ’59 MBA (’87 P) (’20 GP), also graduated from Kellogg.
